Saddle Fitting Guide

If you do not know the correct saddle fitting for your horse or pony this is not a problem. Please follow this step-by-step guide, then we can arrive at the correct fitting for your animal.

STEP ONE

You need to produce two templates, which represent your horses back. The first template is taken directly over the withers where the front of the saddle, the head, will sit. If you can locate the animal's shoulder blade the profile should be just to the rear of this.

To record the profile, take a flexi curve or a flexible coat hanger and bend them to the profile of a vertical line some 8 inches (100cm) long down each side of the horse. Draw around the profile on a piece of card to record the shape and compare the shape to the standard profiles shown below. Find the closest profile to the one you have produced and draw it onto our profile print out

STEP TWO

To take the second back profile carry out the same exercise at the location where the back of the saddle will be located, this should be where you can feel the last rib of the animal. Transfer this profile to a piece of card and post or fax both profiles to us at our address shown at the bottom of every page. If you fax the information then measure and mark on both profiles the base and height dimensions so that we can correct any distortions.

If your horse has prominent features on their back, high withers or flat backed the note these on your profiles.
